Student Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026. AptiTrove is built on the principle that educational data belongs to the student and the educational institution. We do not sell user data, run third-party advertising trackers, or monetize learner activity.

1. Information We Collect

To provide authentic learning analytics, placement diagnostics, and cheat-resistant mock exams, we collect:

  • Account Credentials: Name, institutional email address, and hashed authentication records.
  • Academic Progression: Practice question attempts, response times, correctness, mastery scores, and XP points.
  • Assessment Telemetry: Mock exam start times, section timestamps, autosaved choices, tab switch alerts, and finalized scorecards.
  • Institutional Profile (Optional): College name, department, roll number, and year level for cohort placement cell reporting.

2. Cookies & Storage Transparency

AptiTrove uses strictly functional browser storage:

  • aptitrove-theme (Local Storage): Preserves your preference for Light, Dark, or System mode.
  • auth_session (HttpOnly Cookie): Secure, encrypted authentication session token.
  • Zero Ad Trackers: We do not load Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or third-party behavioral trackers.

3. Institutional Cohort Sharing

If you join a college or university cohort (e.g., via your institutional email or placement cell invitation), authorized faculty administrators of your institution can access your assessment scores, sectional accuracy, and practice volume to assist in campus recruitment preparation.

4. Data Retention & Student Rights

You retain full ownership of your learning data. You have the right to:

  • Request an export of all your attempted questions, score history, and mastery records.
  • Opt out of public leaderboard displays at any time from your profile settings.
  • Request complete erasure of your account and historical records upon graduation or account closure.

5. Optional Academic Research

Optional interaction signals used for academic research—such as answer changes, option hover patterns, scratchpad use, and question-window focus—are collected only after an eligible learner actively opts in. Declining does not affect access or academic evaluation. Learners can review the details and change their choice on the Research Participation page.

6. Self-Hosted Deployments

When AptiTrove is deployed on-premises by an academic institution, all database records remain entirely within the institution’s private cloud or internal network infrastructure. No telemetry or student records are transmitted to external servers.
